Barite is usually used as a weighing agent in oil well-drilling fluids to counteract certain pressures that result from well drilling and operation. Bentonite is used as drilling mud in the extraction of drill cuttings during the drilling process. Activated clay is clay of bentonite origin, can be used for decolorization and refining of oil, grease, paraffin oil etc.. Cenospheres used as lightening agent for drilling, also called mud thinner, are from fly ash after coal combustion. Ceramic proppant is the key material in low-permeability fracturing of oil and gas wells' exploration.
